Any recommendations for careers pertaining to the 12th house?

My sun, venus and pluto are all in conj. here... all in scorpio.
I graduated with a degree in interior design, and only recently it hit me like a ton of bricks.... Im not doing anything with that! It pisses me off to design anything other than my own style (go figure) and I just cannot deal with superficial nature of it.
I need a new job and moreso some advice : )

try something concerning charity foundations or helping the less fortunate; i just finished working at a place that deals with cerebral paralysis kids and you cant imagine how deeply satisfying it was. if it were not for theyre a non lucrative organizatoin, id really consider making a career in places like that.... i speak from the heart.... (saturn uranus neptune all conjunct each other in capricorn, 12th house... all of them trine mars too)

I do social work... and find it very satisfying... I need to feel like i'm giving back to people in some way, no matter how small or i feel like i'm wasting my time... when it comes to work anyway ;)

Yeah. Make it up yourself, if possible. It seems to me that 12th Housers need to also consider going it on their own.

Thank you guys... coincidentally I am working right now as a driver for an autistic child. It has been the most humbling and gratifying job and that is really whats making me "change paths". I am losing it in a few weeks and more than anything else I am going to miss him! The emotional aspect here for me is tough tho.
amiable--> I'm def feeling the go it alone thing lol! The making it up part is whats killing me : )

            Hi, Shannon,

Since you liked working with an autistic child, maybe you could do more work with autistic children, or children with other mental or physical challenges.

You might want to get some medical training, in order to be prepared to deal with physically-challenged children. . .or, indeed, with any emergency that may come up.

I see your 5th House (of children) is ruled by Mars. Mars is conjunct Moon in the 11th house, trine Jupiter (in the 3rd hs in Aquarius), and trine Chiron (in the 7th house in gemini). Your North Node is in the 6th house in Taurus. Your 10th house is pretty much filled by Virgo.

Working with mentally or physically challenged children seems pretty natural for you. Also, being a "driver," or someone who moves people from place to place, would also be natural for you.

Maggie, I have to admit I dont really know too much about the correlations of the planets. *thats why Im on tribe :) ...but I dont have anything in my fifth house?? But very insightful, and I neglect my virgo midheaven too often. Social work seems to be the consensous tho!?

in the meantime zayne if u wanna get me a job as a smoke jumper Im down! hahaa

Yes, Shannon...you are correct. You don't have a planet or a point-point in your 5th House. However, the cusp (beginning) of your 5th House is in the sign of Aries. Aries is ruled by Mars. Therefore, Mars rules your 5th House.

                :-)

"Social work would be OK....but I really don't see you sitting all day at a desk for long! Ha ha!"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!! ....................That's not what social work is.

Social work is a very very very broad subject... my last job was going into people's homes and helping them teach and work with their children with developmental delays.... and btw, i really don't mean to pick.... but it's "children with autism" not "autistic children" that's labeling. No worries though, just HAD to throw that out there.

My job before that was in a group home with adults and teens with mental illnesses and handicaps... the closest thing i saw to a desk was the one toppling onto the floor before the chair flew past my head.... nothing like walking into work and dodging a boom box while being called a cunt.... *sigh* those where the good old days...........

But this is why I loved the driving job. Me and Drew (the *child with autism) just rock out every morning, he loves all my music its just fantastic...
Never thought of the group home route... interesting, I probably would like that atmosphere. Youve done quite a bit in this field huh Stacy??

You sign right here on the dotted line....... then kiss you nights and weekends goodbye.......... lol.. no, it was worth it at the time, I fully intend on returning to that specific field sometime in the future when state budgeting allows it.... :) i miss it, for many reasons....

                      Shannon-

I'm working on my degree in social work for no other reason than i have a lot of wiggle room with it to move around if i want to.... otherwise i would much rather have a degree in psychology, or sociology, or philosophy, womens studies, etc, etc... that all being said.. there are plenty of desk work jobs in this field, i'm sure... you just have to know where to look... lol which is what social work essentially is... no thy community....

When I first started taking him all he would listen to is country music. I listen to all kinds of genres but one day I couldnt take it and I put in one of my mix cds (arctic monkeys/ interpol/ postal service) and I was like "give this one a try". Especially with Postal Service, he was closing his eyes and smiling. He even rolled down his window and stuck his arms out (like superman). I dont think anyone had ever played him anything else?! Now he REALLY enjoys it, he puts it right on.
One random cd had a missy elliot song on it too and he cracked up laughing at her voice. I play that every now and then when he is cranky :)

Cool! The reason i ask is that I see MUSIC heavily in your chart. Maybe somehow you can combine Music with your love of children. ;-) Writing songs and expressing yourself can also be a "side-hobby" that is very valuable and precious in your life. You definitely would benefit from an artistic way of viewing the world.

My astrologer gave me an affirmation that I use often:

"I am an artist and I view the world through a creative lens."

haha! can definately see thattt... I live through music...Its my escape. I love to sing too, secretly of course tho lol. I remember about a year ago my radio died in my car. Andrew threw a little fit because we had no music. After about a half hour of him angrily chanting, I just burst out singing. I've never sang in front of anyone before, but he was shocked. He just stared at me and then at one point even tried to turn up the volume when I sang lower lol. It was cool
Is it the sag that makes me musical?? just wonderin

My own feeling is that your whole 1st house is full of music! The Sun is ALMOST on the horizon, which means it is conjunct your Ascendant, giving it power to "Light up" the world, although you may feel more comfortable staying a bit behind the scenes (back up singer?).

In your first house, you have Saturn in Scorpio, Mercury and Uranus in Sagittarius. These 3 can be either musical or scientific (Mathematical?) or both. The Saturn in Scorpio gives your musical traits a tinge of darkness. ;-) Mercury in Sag brings you the ability to communicate, both through words and feelings in your music. Uranus in Sag gives you an interest in new music and rocknroll! :-) Any kind of electric music would be ruled by Uranus.

You guys (I'm certain) know that the 12th house doesn't influence the Jobs or Careers as those areas are left up to the 6th and 12th house.
I feel that it would be better to look towards the Sign on those two house cusps and also to where each of the ruling planets are.
      • Re: 12th Jobs??

        Sat, August 22, 2009 - 11:25 AM
The only reason to me that your 12th house would come into play is because of you having the ruler of the 6th in the 12th.That ruler would be Venus so it is important to know how Venus works and what it's affect could be in this case. Before I go on to describe that I also find it necessary to glance the ruler of your Midhaven. So there you have the ruler of the 10th in the 1st. That ruler would be Mercury.I am going to do something simple first. I am going to look for any aspect you may have between Venus and Mercury to see what the energies are doing together. With you I see they have no aspect which makes me feel that you don't have any real challenge between how you speak (Mercury) and the people with whom you give your social graces or affections(Venus).

Okay taken alone Mercury is communicative, nervous,it travels,it drives,it thinks, and with Mercury in the 1st these attributes should be clearly visible within your career or in dealing with your career. With the This Ruler of the 10th in the 1st you take on an analytical nature but, with the Virgo influence you are seen taking care of someone. I have noticed that the Virgo energy is notorious for Caring for people with Health or Medical problems or nursing people's health in some way. Psychically I feel that you would have a great potential for being a nurse or working in a hospital as you would interact with your staff and all, going on lunch breaks with them and enjoying the "Hospital Gossip This is just an image I am receiving but, based on your chart I believe you of course would really need to feel free and not stuck in a Hospital(mercury in Sagittarius ). Mercury is the ruler of the 3rd house which deals with Travel by car, train, planes, or any other sort.
It would make great sense for you to want to travel and stay moving while also caring for someone. Mercury in Sagittarius to me signifies a good ability to still be able to learn. That energy gives you ideas though that may be varied and may take you on many different paths because you probably often act on your own ideas as opposed to others. This one influence for me would suggest someone who would be great at caring for other but, in constant motion. You would do very well working one on one with individuals who may be be medically affected in some way but, can still travel and move about and about to maybe carnivals and all of those things. I don't know many Professions or what to call a job like this being that I am only 19 but, I feel like you could be really inspiring and really be great in any of the fields and the Sun in the 12th house doesn't hurt the fact that you may shine in areas dealing with things like the Hospital and the "unseen". I have my Sun here in the 12th along with Mercury and I found myself running a whole daycare by myself with about 10 or more kids while I was 18 and I shined in it simply because with the 12th house influence we shine in areas that are not openly seen or praised or noticed. We shine when we are being selfless and we shine when we are emphatic with other human beings.

Moving on to your Venus influence, taken alone Venus is your ability to love(care) for another,it is your artistic sense, and how you express affection within social settings. Venus to me feels like the moon in the sense that it really is about how you respond to someone emotionally(through love or affectionately with care or whatever the sign Venus is in suggests)

Oh darnnit! I am sorry I have to go but I will finish it for you.
        Take care!!!:D

I thought that too, at first. But then I realized every part of the chart affects every other part of the chart. And if one can fulfill one's "SUN" through one's career, all the better for all of us!

Well, Dionysus ~ we all make these little errors, tbs.

I guess my basic point is that the 12th, when aspected significantly, can probably influence most of the rest of the chart, including those areas where career is concerned, because eventually you discover that a career is not successful if it does not meet that which is very core to your being. I say that as a Sun conj Pluto in 12H gal.
  • Re: Venus ruling 6th - Opposition Ascendant?

    Sat, August 22, 2009 - 10:58 PM
Am I being too liberal here seeing that Venus ruling in 6th (almost) opposes the ASC? Shannon, you were drawn to decorating for a reason. While social work sounds altruistic and certainly befitting of someone whose talents and energies would be excellent for helping others, it probably doesn't address your inner needs quite so strongly. With budget cutbacks happening all around, any employment at all is tenuous in this economy. I agree with Amiable et al in that you might consider working for yourself.

In the past I've always felt that there were "wars" going on in places of employment, these being the workplace politics, that single out certain people as being unwanted, even if competent. Even while filling out job applications the ominous feeling was there like a brownout or power failure. Such weakness is not very good for the ego, especially when it's ever-present. I've never felt like a hot item on the job market and consider myself EXTREMELY fortunate to have landed a job 20 years ago that allowed me to break out and become self-employed after just a few short years. The 12th house made certain that a steady workflow would be threatened, and eventually that caused a lot of trouble. But being fired continuously is worse!

Several of my friends have expressed an interest in staging homes, which is becoming a noticed career lately. Depending on your Mars makeup, you may have the physical energy to pull it off. I've encouraged one friend to work gratis with friend's homes, repainting/rearranging their places, taking photos, and putting together a top-notch portfolio or even a website for your business. Since Realtors are involved in most of the work, I'd get a check up front every time (have had it with these crass opportunists). Property owners need to pay up front too, they see these services as "free" if they don't like them. I'd bill at $35 USD/hour even as a beginner and include the painting labor in that, plus costs. Perhaps you have a laptop and can do preliminary visual presentations with the right software. People are afraid of color until you actually do the work, so this business is both aesthetically challenging and rewarding at the same time.

I've often overheard a lot of talented people give this idea lip service and then never follow through. The work can be hard, getting help moving furniture is also a challenge, and selling the owners/clients on spending money on accessories makes or breaks the deal. You have better credentials than 95% of the people out there, so this would be an ideal start. I'm certain the internet offers much more advice than I can give you, it might be time to get online and put your new career together. Selling the services is the most difficult part until you learn to impose on people and show them your work. I'd do 10 examples and print out the photographs into a professional binder. That in itself would be very creative. On my profile I've posted photos of my home before it sold; I hired someone for about $250 to do the job after I did the painting myself; It took $750 in accessories to pull it off.

Hey Steven, funny you recommended this because I THOUGHT that was exactly what I wanted to do lol. I interned about a year ago staging condos. Its practical for me too because my gram and papa do real estate. But straight out, I have crazy taste. Its hard for me to do "practical", sellable, or country kitchens lol. I have to admit tho I dont want to just throw the idea out the window. Its great money too...I just need stability rite now I think. Great advice tho, ~much love!

It really almost doesn't matter what a 12th House person gravitates toward in terms of being self-employed, but I would go with whatever indicators there are in life and in the chart. As in my case, a lot of Leo/Virgo and Aquarius. A very quiet and isloated occupation with a high degree of anonymity and flexibility appeals to me. It would suit my circumstances, and is, in and of itself, an very 12H sort of preference.

Well...my neptune is right on my MC, so that's a factor, but I'm getting involved with stage lighting and damn, it's for once like everything is working out, and even pushing me in that direction (no opportunities in any other realm, I'm having major ones in lighting fly at me like a strobe light)

I'm enjoying the behind the scenes element of it, I feel like I'm making major contributions to events even if I'm not directly noticed for it...I do club lighting, and alot of folk don't notice good club lighting from bad directly, but I see how I'm able to manipulate the moods of the audience through the color and motion of light I subject them to.

I was thinking about interior lighting too...I'm obsessed with the contrast between light, color and darkness which is all pretty typical neptune and scorpio shit I suppose. Lighting has such a weird, primitive effect on psychology too.....sooo many worlds to explore.

Mike...this is so cool! "Lighting" seems a wonderful craft to pursue....in so many ways!

I have a number of friends/aquaintances with Neptune near their MC or in their 10th house, and I've always been curious about its meaning.

With "Lighting" you are able to manipulate "moods" and set scenes.....you can add glamour or mystery....you can highlight or accent.....it is certainly an Artform that can be used in drama, film, and other media. You can also use it in "happenings" (like raves, etc.).

I feel that Light can actually NURTURE us. Certainly, COLOR can be taken-in by the body for energy and strength....!

Well, one of them is now working for an institution that houses juvenile delinquents. She "guards" them and makes sure they do not run away. But she also gives them an "ear" and tries to help them get some psychological balance....

The others are too young to have a "career" yet.....

I work with special needs young adults and hope to one day get into a career related to counseling or art therapy (12th house sun / venus, aquarius midheaven)

I'm not at all into the physical care part of this work, it's entirely about helping others while at the same time learning more about myself. The kind of work I'm doing now feels deeply rewarding (and of course its challenging, but I enjoy it)
